The Gorn River Valley, Part 4

Part four is a bit slow again, finishing up loose ends in town and skipping some time for natural healing to occur. We end in the dungeon again, look forward for more action next week!

DM - Returning to the public house nearly at the same time you find Anrock sitting at the bar, drinking from a mug of ale. He sits slouched, looking down at the wooden counter top.

Shawn - Va'lar would walk up and sit down beside Anrock, giving him a small nod but not saying much.

Todd - Mikkel follows suit on Anrock's other side, stretching with a yawn. Then he pats Anrock's back with the outstretched hand. "What's on your mind Anrock?"

DM - "I just lost my brother, what do you think? Almost worse, I lost a wagon." He says as he takes a swig from his mug. "Did you find a blanket for sale?"

Todd - Mikkel swings his pack around and opens it wide then gestures for Anrock to reach for it.

Shawn - "We'll help you where needed my friend"

DM - Anrock takes the pack and pulls out the silk "Is this for Dagrock?" He says with a half smile. "What do I owe you for this?"

Todd - "Yes and nothing" Mikkel says with a smile

DM - "You two are too kind. Let's get him to the temple then, get the rites taken care of."

Shawn - Va'lar will stand up, letting Anrock lead the way to the room "We just wish we would've been quicker for both of you."

DM - Anrock leads you to the room, "Me too. I doubt he was still alive by the time I reached town. I don't want to wonder what sort of creature could do this." He wraps the body with the silk, carefully tying it around his brother. The three of you carefully carry Dagrock to the temple. Once inside the chiseled stone building a priest in a dark green robe rushes to you. The priest offers his condolences, and talks to Anrock for a time of what specific rites he wishes for his brother, to which Anrock asks for a rite of passage to the sea for his brother, a place he loved as a child.

Anrock turns to you as the priest anoints the body with various oils, the smell of salt filling the room, "You two don't need to stay for this, but you're welcome to."

Shawn - Va'lar will reach up and place a hand on his shoulder "I'll take my leave, this is for family, if you need us you know where to find us" He'd say before leaving

Todd - Mikkel will hide a few tears before following his companion out.

DM - Anrock nods and watches the priest, tearing up as you leave. Walking from the temple you see the mine to your left, and common house to the right.

Shawn - "I'm going to go rest, I bought some live stocl will drop them off in that hole tonight, want to be ready"

Todd - "Think my dogs are still down there?"

Shawn - "They might be, but they may have...well might've been ate, I'm not sure how civilized those creature are. But I'm hoping if we give them some food maybe they'll let us be

Todd - "Yeah..." Mikkel grips his shovel, "Might have bought this for no reason then. But you can surely make use of this for your food runs." He points at the pulley.

Shawn - "Thank you, will you be coming with me tonight or am I going alone"

Todd - "I'll help!"

Shawn - Va'lar nods a bit before walking towards the bar again, holding one of his wounds "Need to rest first, I got enough food to give them for a few days, hopefully I'll feel better in a few days, then we can go back down, and maybe have allies"

Todd - "Yeah, someone else to have those worms latch onto"

Shawn - "Or perhaps someone who knows how to avoid them"  Enters the inn and head to the room

DM - The day passes slow, your body aches and your wounds remind you of the dangers you faced the night before. After a couple hours Anrock returns and lays in his bunk most of the day.

The sun sets over the mountains and day turns to dusk.

Todd - Zzz. Mikkel dreams of his hometown, though there's one big difference. The carrots they are famous for have been replaced....by worms!

Shawn - "I'm going to get the pigs, Before it gets too dark I'll met you by the hole if you want to rest some more " He says before heading down stairs to go to the farm.

Todd - Mikkel follows his partner out to the farm, hiding his dislike of smells to his best ability.

DM - The farmer is waiting as you both arrive and is quick to help you with the pigs. He uses the rope Va'lar brought with him to lash the pigs together around the waist, allowing you to tug the rope and "lead" them, the best you can lead pigs.

After the short walk to the hole the sun is nearly setting, a beam of daylight still pierces into the hole dimly illuminating the runes below.

Shawn - Will tie the pigs to a nearby tree  before going to the one that was knocked over last night "Try and find some brush, I'll get a few good dry branches off the top of this tree" He says as he pulls out  his axe.

Todd - Mikkel goes to search for good pieces of brush, occasionally using his sword to hack a good piece here and there.

DM - You easily collect brush and hack off branches from the fallen tree, it's leaves already turning brown from being snapped over night.

Shawn - Va'lar would build a small fire about 10 feet from the hole, before starting the wait till they dogs arrived, looking over the edge every now and then to see if they arrived

Todd - Mikkel grabs a small chunk of wood and whittles out animals with his dagger until he possibly hears something near them or Va'lar suddenly moving.

DM - You wait for around 20 minutes, by then the sun has set and no light reaches into the hole anymore. Then you hear the shuffling of feet echo, 50' down. Peering into the hole you spot a group of 6 dog men, some wielding swords and some in gambeson armor, others holding spears. Half look up at you, and say nothing. The others look to the south cave, where the hair creatures entered.

Shawn - Va'lar would lift a hand up, a smile on his face "Good evening friends! We brought that meat as we promised! Three plump pigs just for you. Would you like us to just throw them down, or would you like them alive? We can drop them down with a rope softly"

DM - "You come back! Drop big meat! Drop!" The dog men move to the sides of the cavern, making room for the pigs to fall.

Todd - "Wow..." Mikkel quietly says.

Shawn - Goes over to grab the pigs, taking his axe and giving each pig a quick killing blow, their death squeals heard down below. He then drug each one over to the hole, throwing them down one by one "I come back next moon with more meat, okay?"

DM - The pigs land with a fleshy slap and you can see them dragging the pigs to the eastern cave, leaving a trail of blood "Next moon, more meat, we wait for man friend with more meat!" One of them yells up to you as they help drag the pigs. Three of the dog men never stop watching the southern cave.

Shawn - "Is there anything dog friend want besides meat? I like making friends happy"

DM - "Meat is good, Bring you to Terriherd when you come down."

Shawn - "I am excited to meet Terriherd, I come down in a few moon, but will bring meat every moon for you" He says before giving a small wave "be back next moon, enjoy meat" he says before heading back to the fire, and making a make shift torch "We can can back tomorrow with the goats, lets get back to the safety of the inn"

Todd - "Agreed my friend. The comforts of a bed call to me"

Shawn - Heads back to town

Todd - Heads back to town with watchful eyes

DM - You return to town and settle into bed. The next morning just before sunrise Anrock wakes you both to thank you again, before taking off to the east on his wagon. The days pass slow as you recover, at night returning to the hole and learning more of the dog men. You discover on the 3rd night the one who has been meeting you is called Rottherd, unrelated to Terriherd who leads them.

In town Va'lar over hears some local miners at the bar talking about a giant bear spotted in the words. They say it stands 12 feet tall when it stands, but that sounds outrageous to you.

On the 4th day Mekkel speaks with a miner, very drunk, who says they found a door in the mine made of green bricks they can't pick their way through. You manage to pickpocket 4 coins from him, before he drank them all away.

The 5th day comes and goes, You bring two bottles of wine this time and ease them down in a backpack tied to the rope. The dog men don't drink them now, but seem curious to bring back with them.

You awake on the 6th day, feeling much like your old selves.

Todd - Mikkel itches his scab and crawls out of bed for breakfast. "Hey Va'lar... ya awake buddy?"

Shawn -  Va'lar nods a bit "Yeah...Thinking about that cave, hoping Rottherd will be fine with us entering the hole again, I may bring one last offering down with us so we aren't coming in empty handed."

Todd - "Splendid idea"

Shawn -  Gets up and heads down stairs, eating breakfast before heading back to the farm, buying what livestock he could before returning to the hole, waiting till night yet again

Todd - Mikkel takes his time to enjoy his meals in case they are his last.

DM - Grimloc doesn't have any more goats or pigs to sell, but he does have a big pack mule he offers for 24 coins.

Shawn - Va'lar will get the mule, thanking him for the help before going back to town. This time tying the mule outside the inn and deciding to wait there till it was dakr

DM - The day passes slowly, you two watch the flow of miners into the public house for breakfast, then out to the mines and back again, dirty, for dinner. The public house seems to be doing well feeding the miners, and you assume the farm does well too by providing the meat. Night nears as the sun begins to set in the west, causing the mountains to cast a long shadow over the village.

KageCuri - Will head out while it's still a bit light out, making his way to the hole and starting the wait once more

Todd - Mikkel follows suit, shovel in hand.

DM - You reach the hole, as you've done all week, soon you hear the dog men down below shuffle into the large cavern.

Todd - Mikkel walks over to some grass and sprinkles it over the mule. "Seasoning is good, yes?"

Shawn - Va'lar will look over the edge giving a large wave "Good evening  Rottherd! Did you like the wine I brought last night? My favorite drink. We bring biggest meat tonight, and want to come down with it, is that okay?"

DM - "Throw big meat down! Then come down!" The creature yells back "Wine was good! Terriherd liked!"

Todd - Mikkel chuckles.

Shawn - "I will bring more next time, here is the meat, step far back, big meat very big, Mikkel, set the pulley up please" He says before leading the donkey closer to the hole, once again killing the animal, and pushing it into the hole

Todd - Mikkel does his damnest at getting the pulley ready for use.

DM - Mikkel loops the rope through the pulley, attaching it to a nearby tree with the 25' of rope Va'lar has. The pulley looks ready.

Va'lar pushes the mule in, blood trailing down with it. The dog men struggle but are able to push it near the eastern cave and wait for you to come down.

Shawn - "I'll go first, they know me a bit more, lets hope this all works well" He says before getting onto the rope, slowly lowering himself down "I come down now Rottherd,"

Todd - Mikkel nods and then says "Please let them know I'm your friend"

Shawn - Nods a bit, slowly making his way down, once he was closer to the ground he spoke again "Rottherd, remember my friend from when we met? He is coming down too, good friend, helped me get meat" He says before finally reaching the ground, turning around to face the dogmen, s smile on his face "Nice to meet you again friend"

DM - Landing at the bottom you try to peer around in near perfect darkness. A figure before you speaks, "Good to see Va'lar. Good to get meat from Va'lar!"

Todd - After hearing Va'lar land, Mikkel makes his way down the hole as well.

Shawn - "Do you mind if I light a fire, I cannot see in the dark?" He asks as he reaches into his bag to pull out one of his torches

DM - "Yes, Make cooking fire and see. We will take you to Terriherd"

Shawn - Pulls out the torch, and after a few seconds of looking he'd find the flint and steel, striking it till it lit

DM - Mikkel lands as sparks fly from Va'lar. A torch lights and illuminates the cavern. The dried blood trail leads to the eastern cave, but where the trail would mark the runes there is no sign of blood ever being on them.

You see six dog men standing around you, two watching the southern cave and three dragging the mule by their teeth, pulling on all fours. Rottherd smiles a canine smile and greets Va'lar. "Good to see friend who brings meat! Lets go now before the Fur comes." You can now see Rottherd's dog head and hind legs are blond, with two black beady eyes peaking through shaggy fur.
